Run United 2 Delivers Double the Fun the Second Time Around
Unilab Active Health, RunRio did it again
There is really no stopping Unilab Active Health and RunRio Inc. in outpacing themselves at every Run United event. Run United 2 did not only break the record number of participants, particularly in the 21km category, it also exceeded participants’ expectations in terms of fun and excitement.
There was a high turnout of participants in all the race categories—the 500m dash for kids, 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k, proving yet again that running is now the most popular sports and fitness activity in the country.
“The participants’ support of our vision of providing activities to help engage the Filipino family in an active and healthy lifestyle is overwhelming. It makes us more inspired and enthusiastic to do better in Run United 3 and other upcoming events,” said Alex Panlilio, Head of Unilab Active Health.
Run United 3 will be held on September 16 and will be followed shortly on October 28 by the much-anticipated Run United Philippine Marathon—which is Run United’s first ever full marathon or 42.195K race.
Newbie runners raced alongside elite runners along the routes of Run United 2. All categories except for 21k started and finished at the SM Mall of Asia grounds. The 21k’s gun start was at Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and finish line was at SM Mall of Asia.
According to RunRio President, Rio dela Cruz, Run United 2 turned out as the biggest 21km race in the Philippines, so far. “We are happy that despite the huge turnout, the race went smoothly with no major hassles. A safe and orderly run race has always been our priority and we achieved that at Run United 2. We thank all the runners for their continued cooperation and support,” said Coach Rio.
All Run United 2 finishers for the 500m, 3K, 5K and 10K categories received an Active Health Sling bag, drinks, and race analysis. 21K runners were given a finisher’s medal, finisher’s shirt, Active Health Sling bag, drinks, and race analysis.
Many celebrities were also sighted at Run United 2, including Enervon Multivitamins endorser Carmina Villaroel and her kids, JC de Vera, Miriam Quiambao, Grace Lee, Mark Bautista, Luis Alandy, and Director Lino Cayetano. Popular singer Barbie Almalbis performed at the Active Health Expo.
A number of other new concepts and services for the participants and their families were introduced at Run United 2 including the improved Active Health Expo that added more areas to explore and services to avail of.
The first ever Run United Expo, patterned after known international races, was also a hit among the runners as it exposed them to the latest trends in running and they also took the opportunity to avail of huge discounts from the exhibitors. A special line of Run United memorabilia apparel was also sold for Run United enthusiasts and loyalists.
Run United races are for the benefit of Gawad Kalusugan (the health program of Gawad Kalinga) and the Children’s Hour. Other events to watch out for from Unilab Active Health this year include the Tri United 2 on June 30 to July 1 followed by the Tri United 3 on November 10 and 11. Year-round running and triathlon clinics are also conducted in various venues.
